How this model works

This calculator is an averaged, all-things-equal estimate. It compares plans and battery settings using the same assumptions so you can make a like-for-like decision.

What it models

  • Your annual usage is distributed into 48 half-hour intervals using your selected usage pattern or uploaded profile.
  • Retailer import rates are applied by time window and day tag rules (weekday/weekend/any-day handling).
  • Solar generation uses a fixed typical daytime shape from your annual solar input.
  • Battery dispatch follows physical constraints: capacity, charge/discharge limits, efficiency, SOC floor, and cycle limits.
  • Each scenario is run with the same assumptions so differences reflect tariff and dispatch settings, not random noise.

Important caveats

  • Results are not a bill guarantee. They are a planning estimate under average conditions.
  • Plan availability and eligibility rules vary by address, meter setup, retailer criteria, and signup checks; a listed plan may not always be offered to every customer.
  • Weather variability is simplified. Daily cloud, heatwaves, and seasonal anomalies can shift solar and load significantly.
  • Household behavior is assumed stable. Real usage timing changes (EV charging, heating, occupancy) can alter outcomes.
  • Tariffs and plan terms can change over time. Future price movements are not forecast.
  • Network limits, retailer special clauses, controlled-load rules, and temporary promotions may not be fully captured.
  • Battery aging/degradation and installer-specific control logic are not fully modeled as long-term performance curves.

How to use the numbers

Treat annual savings as an expected midpoint, not an exact endpoint. A practical approach is to read each result as a range around the estimate and prefer options that remain attractive even if conditions vary.

In short: this is best for ranking and screening options, then validating your top shortlist with your retailer and installer.
